About these opinions
I listen to a lot of music, and I spend all my time thinking about it.
I was lovingly gifted this obsession by my father from the moment I was born—he raised me on all types of music, from Joni Mitchell to Zero 7 to Fela Kuti. I grew up on handpicked playlists and song recommendations, which eventually translated into curiosity about what I was hearing and years of Wikipedia-driven research spirals. I became somewhat of an amateur investigative journalist, determined to get to the bottom of why a line meant what it meant or how those producers knew that artist or what inspired that album.
In July 2023, I got to be part of a class with the New York Times that properly introduced me to music journalism for the first time. Since then, I’ve developed a love of writing about the music I’m listening to. I find it helps me explore the things I love in ways I wouldn’t otherwise have and forces me to learn to explain just why I love them so much! I've been all over the music industry over the last few years: I've worked as a songwriter, a booking agent, and even served as the president of a small record label. But currently, I spend my time fully focused on my journalistic endeavors at the Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, where I'm an Arts & Culture staff writer at the New School Free Press.
